At a classic American restaurant, you might not expect to find a full sushi bar. Here at Zany’s, it’s one of the busiest corners of the kitchen! Today, we’re taking a dive
into the world of sushi with Cameron and Mya, our Sioux Chefs behind the sushi bar. While our menu includes classics like nigiri and sashimi, many of our guests gravitate
toward creative rolls that blend traditional structure with bold, American-style flavors. No matter your preference, it’s all brought to life by the people behind the counter. Let’s go meet them!

Meet Mya
Mya has been rolling sushi for about five years, and it shows. During our interview, she was hard at work the entire time, her arms moving at an almost superhuman speed as she
rolled one order after another. “I’ve always loved eating sushi,” Mya explained. “That, and I applied with good knife skills, so they threw me into sushi!” When asked about her favorite
part of the job, her answer was immediate. “Definitely the people,” she said. “The coworkers are amazing, and we have some really fun regulars who come in.” Mya also walked us
through how to make her favorite roll, the Shark Bait. “It’s the presentation of it,” she said. “I love making it.”
Meet Cameron
We also had the chance to meet Cameron, who has been working at the sushi bar for about four years. A longtime lover of cooking, Cameron shared that joining the sushi team at Zany’s
gave him the opportunity to truly chase that passion. As he listened to our questions, Cameron continued working diligently on his rolls while the smell of rice vinegar and tempura filled
the air and orders kept coming in. When asked about his favorite roll to make, he showed us the Spider Roll. “The tempura crab is so fun to work with,” Cameron explained, skillfully assembling
the roll in front of us. And when asked how the team keeps the energy up during busy shifts, his answer came without hesitation: “Jokes. Jokes and having fun really keep us going.”

A Team in Sync
Mya and Cameron have become the efficient and well-loved team behind one of the busiest corners of Zany’s, and it’s not hard to see why. They look out for each other in small but meaningful
ways. At one point, Cameron’s hair came loose, and Mya quickly stepped over to fix it, carefully tying it back and even adding an accessory so it looked nice. I watched, a little fascinated, as
they moved around the kitchen in sync, passing ingredients and sharing jokes between orders.

The Spider Roll
For many guests, this is their first introduction to sushi, and Mya and Cameron are the reason it feels approachable, fun, and unforgettable. From a customer standpoint, we see beautiful rolls and
delicious food, but the job involves much more than that. Mya emphasized how important good knife skills really are. “Sometimes we get the fish with bones still in,” she explained. “You have to be
able to get the bones completely out without cutting off too much of the actual fish.” Cameron added, “The topper fish also have to be sliced in one smooth swipe. You can’t saw at it.”

It’s not all serious, though. The team has plenty of fun, and they even shared that during slower moments, they’re encouraged to experiment with ingredients and create their own unique rolls.
Creativity is a big part of the job, and Cameron and Mya serve it up with smiles every day. Watching them work, it’s impossible not to smile. Huge thanks to Mya and Cameron for the inside sushi
scoop, and for reminding us that long after the plates are cleared, what you really remember isn’t the roll. It’s the people who made you feel welcome while they made it.
