Did you know that there are just FOUR major packers that supply 85% of the country’s beef? Here at Happy Day, we aim to do things a little bit differently.
Where do we get our beef?
Happy Day has been proudly sourcing high-quality, locally raised beef from Big Canyon Beef for a little over two years. Big Canyon is located in rural Idaho, about 18 miles past Nez Perce in an area known as Central Ridge.
Big Canyon is a third-generation, family-owned and operated cattle ranch and dryland crop farm. It’s clear how much pride the family takes in caring for both their cattle and their land. From their antibiotic policies to their cattle-raising philosophies, we’re excited to share their story with you.
How the cows are raised

Sourcing our beef this locally has some serious benefits, starting with healthier meals for our community. While sickness is sometimes inevitable, Big Canyon Beef has a strict policy on antibiotic use. If needed, cattle are doctored accordingly, but only cattle not treated with antibiotics end up in our restaurants and your plate.
And it’s not just about when cows get sick. From the moment they’re born, these cattle graze on grass and alfalfa hay in the winter, and thrive in steep, rocky, grass-filled canyons in the spring and summer. Calves are born at lower elevations near the LC Valley during colder months, and as temperatures warm, the herd naturally moves to higher elevations.

Our Butcher Shop
Finally, all of our beef from Big Canyon is processed in-house at our own butcher shop, ensuring quality no matter the cut. We’re committed to serving you fresh beef straight to your table.
By prioritizing local sourcing, we’re able to strengthen our local economy and keep dollars within our community rather than sending them to major producers. This initiative supports local farmers, builds resilience, and helps create a more sustainable food system.
We couldn’t do it without partners like Big Canyon Beef, and we’re proud to share their story with you.
